Min: St Pete grain reserves enough for milling facilities

MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- Grain reserves in St. Petersburg are enough to ensure uninterrupted operations of milling facilities, the Agriculture Ministry said on Wednesday.

“According to the Federal State Statistics Service, as of October 1, 2017, Russian agricultural, procurement, and processing organizations had 57.775 million tonnes of grain or by 8.17 million tonnes (by 16.5%) more than as of October 1, 2016, including 427,100 tonnes in St. Petersburg, which is by 95,100 tonnes (by 28.6%) more than as of October 1, 2016,” the ministry said.

“Taking into account the estimated weakly consumption of grain in St. Petersburg in 2017, reserves of 427,100 tonnes are enough to ensure uninterrupted operations of processing facilities,” the ministry said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kommersant business daily reported that the shortage of rail cars, already experienced by producers of salt and broken stone, may soon affect milling firms of the city because many rail cars are used for exports of grain. The government of St. Petersburg fear that the situation is fraught with a deficit of bread and a price jump.
